Jackery 1000 v2 vs 1000 Plus: only one of them is still on sale
On paper these two look like a clean step up. Both use LiFePO4 cells, both are rated at 4,000 cycles, both carry the same three-year base warranty, and the Explorer 1000 Plus adds capacity and output over the Explorer 1000 v2. The reason that framing no longer works is availability: Jackery has taken the 1000 Plus out of active sale. Its product page still loads and still prints $999, but every variant on it reports out of stock, and the model has dropped off Jackery’s own portable power station listing. The v2 is on that listing, in stock, at $519.
Status check before you read the specs. The Explorer 1000 Plus is discontinued at Jackery. It is not one sold-out variant — the Solar Generator 1000 Plus bundles, the Battery Pack 1000 Plus expansion unit and even the refurbished stock all report unavailable. Treat the $999 still printed on that page as a stale listing figure, not a price anyone can pay. The Explorer 1000 v2 is live and orderable.

Capacity and what it actually runs
The v2 holds 1,070Wh. The Plus holds 1,264.64Wh, which Jackery markets as 1,264Wh — 18.2% more. You do not get all of that out of the sockets, because the inverter takes a cut. Working from 85% of rated capacity for AC loads and 92% for DC, the v2 gives 909.5Wh at the outlets and the Plus gives 1,074.9Wh. Those two numbers drive everything below.
- Fridge, 50W: 18.2 hours vs 21.5 hours — 909.5 ÷ 50 = 18.2, and 1,074.9 ÷ 50 = 21.5.
- CPAP, 40W: 22.7 hours vs 26.9 hours. Both clear two nights.
- TV, 90W: 10.1 hours vs 11.9 hours.
- Laptop, 60W over USB-C: 16.4 hours vs 19.4 hours, using the 92% DC figure rather than the AC one.
- Router, 10W on DC: 98 hours vs 116 hours.
- Microwave, 1,000W: 54 minutes vs 64 minutes.
The gap is consistently around three hours on a fridge and four on a CPAP. That is real, but it is one extra evening rather than a different class of machine. If your outage planning turns on those three hours, capacity is not the thing to fix — a second unit or a bigger one is.
Output ceiling: 1,500W against 2,000W
This is the sharper difference. The v2 is rated 1,500W continuous with a 3,000W surge; the Plus is rated 2,000W continuous with a 4,000W surge. A 1,500W kettle sits exactly on the v2’s rated ceiling with nothing to spare, while the Plus has 500W of headroom for whatever else is plugged in. Neither runs a kettle for long: 909.5 ÷ 1,500 gives 36 minutes on the v2, and 1,074.9 ÷ 1,500 gives 43 minutes on the Plus. Headroom matters for whether the load starts at all, not for how long it lasts.
Charging, and the figure Jackery does not print
Neither product page publishes a wattage for AC charging input. Both give it as a current limit only — 100–120V, 60Hz, 15A max — so there is no maker-stated charge wattage for either unit, and we are not going to compute one from volts and amps and present it as published. The 1,500W figure that appears on the v2 page belongs to bypass mode, which is pass-through while the unit is plugged in, not charging. What Jackery does publish is time: 1.58 hours to full on the v2, 1.7 hours on the Plus. Car charging splits the other way, 12 hours on the v2 against 7 on the Plus.
Solar is where the widely copied numbers are wrong. Neither unit takes 2,000W. Jackery’s DC input spec for the v2 tops out at 21A across its two 8mm ports, 400W maximum. The Plus doubles to 22A, 800W maximum. So the Plus does take twice the panel, but the ceiling for both is far lower than aggregator listings suggest.
Expansion, and why it stopped being the argument
The 1000 Plus has a DC expansion port and accepts up to three Battery Pack 1000 Plus units, taking the system to about 5kWh. The v2 has no expansion port and no add-on battery; it is a sealed capacity. That was the honest case for paying more for the Plus, and the spec is real. It is now the weakest part of the case, because the Battery Pack 1000 Plus is sold out alongside the head unit. Buying into an expandable platform whose only expansion module cannot be bought leaves you with a heavier, pricier 1,264Wh box.
Cost per watt-hour
519 ÷ 1,070 = $0.49 per watt-hour on the v2. 999 ÷ 1,264.64 = $0.79 on the Plus. The Plus number is arithmetic against a price no longer being taken, so read it as context for third-party listings rather than a live comparison. If you find remaining Plus stock elsewhere, $0.49 per watt-hour is the bar: on 1,264.64Wh that is about $620.
Which one to buy
Buy the Explorer 1000 v2. It is the model Jackery still sells and still lists as a current line, and it costs $0.49 per watt-hour against the $0.79 the Plus was priced at. You give up about 195Wh of capacity, 500W of continuous output and 400W of solar input, and you give up an expansion path that is no longer purchasable anyway.
If you do find a 1000 Plus on a third-party shelf, check two things before buying: that the seller is authorised, since the 3+2 year warranty extension is registered through Jackery, and that you are not paying a premium for expandability you cannot use.
