Electric Scooters

Electric scooters compared on their published specs: battery size, motor rating, weight and top speed. Commuter, performance, off-road and seated models are in the tables below, followed by buying notes and the full list.

The main types compared

Representative models from each group, chosen to span small batteries to large ones. Every figure was checked on October 9, 2026 against the page each model name links to: the maker’s product page, or the retailer Fluidfreeride’s listing for the Phantom V1, Mantis King GT, Klima and Burn-E 2. Battery is the pack’s volts multiplied by its amp-hours, rounded to the nearest watt-hour. Motor is the rated (continuous) figure where the seller gives one, and a cell marked peak means only a peak figure is published; Fluidfreeride does not say whether its Phantom V1, Klima and Burn-E 2 figures are rated or peak. We have not ridden or tested these scooters, and the tables leave out prices because they change often.

Commuter

For daily trips that end with the scooter folded, carried or parked indoors. The Apollo City 2.0 holds about 2.7 times the energy of the Hiboy S2 Nova and weighs more than twice as much.

Performance

This group runs from Hiboy’s VE1 Pro and MAX Pro, listed at 22 to 23 mph, to Apollo’s dual-motor models at 34 to 53 mph. Apollo publishes only peak motor figures for the two Phantom 2.0 models. Its City Stellar page lists two 900 W motors in one place and 1,200 W × 2 peak in another; the table uses 900 W.

Off-road

Every model here except the Hiboy Titan lists two motors, and every one weighs 74 lb or more.

Seated

Scooters with a seat. They weigh 61.5 to 80.7 lb and list 20 to 25 mph, so they suit riders who want to sit more than riders who need to carry the scooter.

Kids and teens

Hiboy rates its S2 Lite for riders 12 and older, 3 ft 7 in to 5 ft 7 in tall and up to 180 lb, and lists 13 mph, a 250 W motor, a 36 V 5 Ah (180 Wh) battery and 21.8 lb. Varla’s Flyer for Kids lists 7.5 mph, a 120 W motor, 15.4 lb and a 110 lb rider limit. Age and helmet rules differ by state; our guide to electric scooters for kids covers what to check.

How to choose an electric scooter

Compare batteries, not range claims. A range figure is only as good as the conditions behind it: Apollo quotes the Go Stellar’s 38 miles in Eco mode and says actual range varies with rider weight, speed, terrain and conditions. Watt-hours are the fairer comparison across brands. Our commuter scooter guide covers matching a scooter to your round trip.

Weight decides whether you can carry it. Only two models in the commuter and performance tables weigh under 45 lb, the Hiboy S2 Nova (34.5 lb) and the Apollo Dash (43 lb), and both carry under 500 Wh. Above that, weight broadly rises with the battery: 55 lb for the Apollo Go Stellar, 72 lb for the City 2.0, and 100 lb or more for the NAMI Burn-E 2, the Hiboy Titan Pro and both Apollo Phantom 2.0 versions. If the scooter has to go up stairs or onto a train, read the weight column before the speed column.

Motor watts do not compare cleanly across brands. Hiboy publishes rated and peak power separately; Apollo gives only a peak figure for several models, so the Apollo Dash’s 1,200 W and the Hiboy X300’s 500 W are not measured the same way (Hiboy gives the X300 a 700 W peak). Among the commuters, only the Apollo Go Stellar and Varla Pegasus have two motors. Compare motor figures within a brand, and lean on battery, weight and top speed across brands.

Check what your state allows before paying for speed. Top speeds in these tables run from 19 to 53 mph, and scooter rules vary by state and city. In California, Vehicle Code 22411 caps a motorized scooter at 15 mph, and Section 21235 applies that cap on all highways, bikeways included. Section 21235 also keeps scooters off sidewalks and off roads posted above 25 mph unless they are in a Class II or Class IV bikeway (a local authority can allow roads posted up to 35 mph), requires a driver’s license or instruction permit, and requires a helmet for riders under 18. Check your state’s vehicle code and your city’s ordinances before buying a 40 mph model for road use.

Check the safety certification and the condition. UL 2272 is the standard for the electrical systems of personal e-mobility devices such as e-scooters. In December 2022 the Consumer Product Safety Commission wrote to more than 2,000 manufacturers and importers of e-scooters, hoverboards, e-bikes and e-unicycles, citing at least 208 fire or overheating incidents between January 2021 and November 2022, and urged them to comply with UL 2272 (UL 2849 for e-bikes), certified by an accredited testing laboratory. Look for UL 2272 in the listing or the manual. Many listings in the full list below are open-box or refurbished units. Fluidfreeride’s open-box Phantom V1, Klima and Burn-E 2 listings give a two-month warranty on major components, so ask any seller what a used scooter’s warranty covers.

Scooter or e-bike?

A scooter wins on portability and storage; an e-bike wins on range, comfort and hills. If you are weighing the two, start with how far you actually travel and where the thing has to live when you are not riding it.
