The short version
The jackery 300 vs 300 plus decision comes down to two units sitting 5Wh and $10 apart. The Explorer 300 holds 293Wh and lists at $309. The Explorer 300 Plus holds 288Wh and lists at $299. Both are rated at 300W of continuous AC output. The capacity gap is under two percent, smaller than the error in any runtime estimate, so it should not decide anything.
What separates them is warranty length and how much Jackery has actually documented. Before either of those, though, there is the thing buyers at this size get wrong most: the 300W output ceiling, not the 293Wh battery.
What 293Wh actually runs
Rated capacity is not what reaches your device. We work from usable energy — 85% of the rated figure through the AC outlets, 92% through USB and DC, which skip the inverter. That puts the Explorer 300 at roughly 249Wh usable on AC and 269Wh on USB, and the 300 Plus at 245Wh and 265Wh. Divide by the load:
- Router, 10W. 24.9 hours on the Explorer 300, 24.5 on the 300 Plus. A full day of internet through a short outage, and the best use of a battery this size.
- CPAP, 40W. 6.2 hours versus 6.1. That is one night, and only just. It also assumes 40W without a heated humidifier — switch that on and you can double the draw, which halves the night.
- Laptop, 60W. 4.2 hours from the AC outlet on the Explorer 300, 4.1 on the 300 Plus. Charge over USB-C instead and you get 4.5 and 4.4 hours.
- Fridge, 50W. 5.0 hours versus 4.9. A compressor fridge cycles rather than drawing continuously, so the real figure runs longer, but 5 hours is the floor to plan against.
- TV, 90W. 2.8 hours versus 2.7. Most of a film, not an evening.
Notice what that list does not contain. Nothing that heats, nothing that spins a motor. This is a battery for electronics, and at 293Wh it is a good one, but the runtimes are hours, not days.
Use USB-C where the device allows it. The same battery delivers about 8% more energy through USB-C than through the AC outlet, because the inverter never switches on. On a 60W laptop that is an extra twenty minutes per charge, free, on both units.
The 300W ceiling is what catches people
Neither unit will run a 1,000W microwave or a 1,500W kettle. Not for a burst, not at all. Both are rated at 300W continuous, and a load above that ceiling trips the inverter rather than draining the battery faster. It is a hard limit with nothing to do with capacity — a 3,000Wh battery behind a 300W inverter would refuse the same kettle.
The Explorer 300 publishes a 500W surge rating, which covers the brief inrush when a small compressor or pump starts. Jackery does not publish a surge figure for the 300 Plus that we could confirm. If you are buying specifically to start a fridge or a pump, that missing number is a real gap.
Watch out. Check the wattage label on the appliance before you buy, not after. Hair dryers, kettles, toasters, microwaves, space heaters and most coffee makers all sit well above 300W. A power station that cannot run the one device you bought it for is a total loss, and no amount of capacity fixes it.

Those blanks are deliberate. Cycle life, solar input and AC recharge time are figures we could not verify for either unit, and a gap beats a number borrowed from a different model. Jackery sells an Explorer 300, a 300 v2 and a 300D, all clustered around 288–293Wh, and their specifications are not interchangeable.
Cost per watt-hour
The Explorer 300 works out at $1.05 per watt-hour; the 300 Plus at $1.04. A one cent difference is noise. At this size you are paying a fixed premium for the enclosure, inverter and ports, and the cells are a small fraction of the total — which is why cost per watt-hour falls so sharply as you move up. Warranty and chemistry
The 300 Plus carries a 3-year warranty against 2 years on the Explorer 300. On a $300 purchase that extra year is the clearest documented advantage either unit has, and it comes on the cheaper of the two. Weight runs the other way: the 300 Plus is documented at 8.3 lb while the Explorer 300’s weight is unpublished in our data. Both are one-hand carries, so a pound either way changes nothing.
Both are listed as LiFePO4, but Jackery has sold Explorer 300 hardware under more than one chemistry across listings and bundles, and the original 293Wh unit was a lithium-ion design. Chemistry drives cycle life, and neither publishes a cycle rating, so confirm what your specific listing says. Which one to buy
Buy the Jackery Explorer 300 Plus. It is $10 cheaper, carries an extra year of warranty, and gives up 5Wh — six minutes on a 50W fridge. That is the whole trade, and it is not close.
The trade-off is documentation. The Jackery Explorer 300 publishes a 500W surge rating and the 300 Plus does not. If your plan involves starting anything with a motor or compressor — a cooler, a pond pump, a CPAP whose humidifier spikes on startup — that published headroom is worth $10 and a year of warranty, because it is the difference between a unit that works and one that trips. For phones, laptops, cameras and a router through an outage, which is what most buyers at 293Wh are actually doing, the 300 Plus wins on every published number.
