EcoFlow Delta 3 vs Delta 3 Classic

Two power stations, one battery. The EcoFlow Delta 3 vs Delta 3 Classic question starts with a fact that removes most of the drama: both hold 1,024Wh of LFP, both are rated at 1,800W of AC output with a 3,600W surge, and both accept 500W of solar. Point either one at the same fridge and it dies at the same hour. The $100 between them buys two specific things, and capacity is not one of them.

Every price here is EcoFlow’s own direct price for the bare unit — $599 for the DELTA 3, $499 for the DELTA 3 Classic. Most comparisons quote the solar-generator bundle pages instead, which is where figures like $769 and $619 come from. Those include panels.

Runtime is identical, so here it is once

Nameplate watt-hours are not what reaches the socket. On AC, inverter and conversion losses leave roughly 85% of the pack: 1,024Wh x 0.85 = 870Wh usable. On the DC outputs the figure is closer to 92%: 1,024Wh x 0.92 = 942Wh. Divide by the load; the answer is the same for both units.

  • 50W fridge: 870 ÷ 50 = 17.4 hours
  • 90W television: 870 ÷ 90 = 9.7 hours
  • 60W laptop: 870 ÷ 60 = 14.5 hours
  • 40W CPAP: 21.8 hours on AC, or 23.6 hours if you run it from the DC socket (942 ÷ 40)
  • 10W router: 87 hours on AC, 94 hours on DC
  • 1,000W microwave: 0.87 hours, or about 52 minutes
  • 1,500W kettle: 0.58 hours, or about 35 minutes

A 1,500W kettle sits inside the 1,800W rating, so both units will boil one — but a 1,024Wh pack running heating elements is measured in minutes, not evenings. Keep the big loads short and the small ones long, and the two are interchangeable.

What the extra $100 actually buys

The first difference is the one worth arguing about: expansion. The DELTA 3 carries an Extra Battery row in its spec table and accepts the DELTA 2 EB, DELTA 2 Max EB, DELTA Pro 3 EB and DELTA 3 EB, taking the system to a stated 5kWh. The Classic has no extra-battery row at all, and EcoFlow mentions no expansion for it anywhere. If there is any chance you will want more than a thousand watt-hours later, the Classic is a dead end.

The second is charging speed, and it is nearly nothing. The DELTA 3 takes 1,500W from the wall; the Classic takes 1,400W. That is a 7% difference in input, on a pack that EcoFlow says the Classic refills 0–80% in 45 minutes and fully in 60. Solar input is 500W on both. Nobody has ever noticed 100W of wall input.

The X-Boost number runs backwards

Here is the spec most write-ups get upside down. Both units are rated at 1,800W continuous with a 3,600W surge. X-Boost is a separate thing: it trims voltage to drive resistive devices that would otherwise trip the inverter, and it has its own ceiling. On the DELTA 3 that ceiling is 2,200W. On the cheaper Classic it is 2,600W. The budget model has the higher X-Boost ceiling, and that is EcoFlow’s own published figure, not a rounding artefact.

X-Boost is not surge, and neither number is the AC output rating. If you see the DELTA 3 listed at 2,200W or the Classic at 2,600W of output, that is the X-Boost device ceiling promoted into the wrong field. Rated output is 1,800W on both. Surge is 3,600W on both.

Weight, and how much of it is real

The DELTA 3 is 27.6 lb. The Classic is lighter, but by less than it looks: EcoFlow publishes its weight only in kilograms, as the literal string 12.1kg+0.3kg, which converts to 26.7 lb at the base figure and 27.3 lb with the unexplained qualifier included. Call the gap half a pound to a pound, and let it decide nothing.

Cycle life: what EcoFlow publishes, and what it does not

EcoFlow rates the DELTA 3 at 4,000 cycles to 80+% capacity. That comes from the Cycle Life row of the DELTA 3 spec table, and it is the only cycle rating the maker gives. A 3,000-cycle figure does circulate for this model, including in an earlier version of our own comparison; it belongs to the DELTA 3 Extra Battery cross-sell copy further down the same page, not to the power station.

EcoFlow publishes no cycle rating at all for the DELTA 3 Classic. The Classic spec table has no Cycle Life row, unlike both of its siblings. The only durability claim on the page is an estimated lifespan of approximately 10 years based on internal simulation data. Read that as a documentation gap, not as a shorter-lived battery: it is the same LFP chemistry, and there is no published number to compare against. Anyone quoting 3,000 or 4,000 cycles for the Classic has imported it from another model.

Both warranties have the same structure: three years standard plus two more once you register the unit in the EcoFlow app. The five-year headline is real but conditional, on both models.

Which one

Buy the Classic if this is a one-unit purchase with a fixed job — a fridge through an outage, a desk that has to stay up. At $0.49 per watt-hour against $0.58, it is the better arithmetic, and its X-Boost ceiling is the higher of the two. Nothing about it is a cut-down battery.

Buy the DELTA 3 if the answer to “is 1,024Wh enough?” is “probably, for now.” Expansion is the entire case, and it is worth $100 the moment you use it. If you already know 1,024Wh is not enough, skip both: the DELTA 3 Plus is $669 for the same pack with 1,000W of solar input, and the DELTA 2 Max is $1,049 for 2,048Wh.
